Dear B-Greekers:
Without wanting to intrude my personal condition, and least of all to
invite ANY on-list responses (please don't, and I don't need off-list
responses either), I just want to explain my absence from discussions for
over a week, perhaps one of the longest electronic "moments of silence"
that I have engaged in since the dawning of the internet. I've been
recovering from pretty serious surgery (radical prostatectomy) that took
place on May 18 and have been logging in very irregularly since returning
home. I'm now beginning to catch up on recent threads since my hiatus
began. For whatever it's worth, I hope to be getting some of my input into
discussions again pretty soon. One thing I will say: I am delighted to see
that the "great conversation" on our list remains uninterrupted, and I am
truly gratified at the consistent steady hand of my co-chair, Carlton
Winbery, who has deep concerns of his own that could with clear
justification keep him from this responsibility. Also, my thanks to those
from whom I have heard off-list.
