In the GNT the name is most often IAKWBOS, a transliteration of Jacob. In Latin the name is either IACOBUS or IACOMUS. The latter is brought into English as the name James, the consonantal I as a J and the CO drops. If you can find a copy of Murray, New English Dictionary, it will give a much more detailed account of the origin of the name James in English.
