Would you let me know your preferences for scholarly commentaries on
the Greek text of Revelation? I'm very fond of Barrett's commentaries
on the Gospel of John (2nd ed.) and on Acts, and it is that kind of
commentary that I would prefer. Many thanks,
I think R. H. Charles and H. B. Swete are very good (though I don't agree
especially with Charles' position regarding the composition history).
Charles is especially good for his consideration of the grammar of the
Apocalypse (though it must be tempered a bit regarding Semitisms -- see A. T.
Robertson's grammar). Aune is probably one of the best of the recent
commentaries. I have it in electronic format and can't speak definitely for
the print edition since I haven't seen it (though I suspect it is nearly
identical). As an electronic book, Aune stinks. I hate the format. When
the format is so thoroughly bad it is difficult to concentrate on the
content. Much that should have been relegated to pop-ups is in the body of
the text. It may be better in print though I suspect not since I seem to
remember reading a negative comment regarding the layout of the entire
series.
