Age alone is not the determining factor. It must be determined (if possible)
whether one reading occassioned the other or is more likely to be correct for
some other TC reason. We could, and I am sure have, found instances where a
clearly correct reading is not attested in the oldest surviving MS. When
dealing with a situation where the survival of a MS is not necessarily due to
its inherent worth but to climatic and other conditions, survival and age
alone are not determinative.
