According to Smyth 1268: "With adjectives, adverbs, and numerals, TIS may strengthen
or weaken an assertion."
Thus "a bit lower" or "a little lower" I would deem correct. See now A New English
Translation of the Septuagint: Psalms. OUP New York 2000.
