Wieland, according to BDAG SMIGMA is simply a variant spelling for MIGMA (a 
mixture) with no difference in meaning. Other variants at John 19:39 are: 
ELIGMA which refers to a package or a roll, in the original hand of 
Sinaiticus and Vaticanus also the Coptic; SMHGMA which refers to ointment of 
salve, ms1242 and Palestinian Syriac.
