Denny:
I think to baptize "by means of" water is awkward, at least
awkward English. In this instance, you might get by with
"I baptize WITH water" but even that takes "baptize" in a strange way.
I would say in Mark 1:8 all you have is sphere. John the B is
baptizing people IN the water. The water is WHERE John baptizes,
but not the means of his baptizing. The only means one can derive
here seems to me to be John baptizes BY MEANS OF dunking someone,
or dipping them.
