I just taught a year of Greek that way, and it was successful beyond my
expectations.

We went through Mounce in one semester + one month (I'd like to use something
else though). The second semester we memorized all the vocabulary down to 10
times or more, and did an overview of intermediate grammar combined with as
much translation as possible. We used the Analytical Greek New Testament.
Some people were able to read easy passages after one semester (even without
the Analytical NT). It made a believer out of me.

As far as memorizing all the forms--I asked them to put the forms on their
vocab cards so they became familiar with them by reviewing them every time
they looked at the card.
