Becoming A Professor (Off-topic)

I remember Henry Kissinger, upon returning to Harvard,
noted that Harvard had more politics than the
Whitehouse. My limited experience at UC Berkeley
bears this out. I saw a professor appointed in
Classics because he said what was in vogue, when he
was a terrible teacher; a prestigious scholarship
awarded to a comely girl over her more qualified
counterparts. Academia can be ugly, in short.
But that's just one man's opinion. I'm curious to
hear about your experiences there.
