Modern Greek phonetic symbol for X (possibly off topic)

My modern Greek grammar shows two phonetic symbols for X: one (before E
or I) is represented by C with cedilla (ç), pronounced as in German ich,
and the other (before A, O, or OU) represented by a simple x, pronounced
as in German bach.

I don't know whether these are official phonetic symbols or not.
