Subject: [b-greek] Looking for a greek distance learning centre

Hi

I need some help, and thought this group would be the best place to find
it. I've been here for a while reading, but not really contributing. I have
a real desire to learn greek, but know my personal shortcomings. One thing
I know about myself is that I'm far more likely to learn something and
stick to it if I'm actively signed up in a course, with homework, projects
and deadlines. I've bought various books to teach myself greek (for example
the JACT set), but found one limitation was not having a teacher to ask
questions, and get clarifications from. Yes, I know this group could serve
that purpose, but to be honest I'd be a little reticent distracting you all
with many frequent and trivial questions.

So, one possible solution I came up with was to try and find a university
which offers some type of distance learning courses in greek. The thing is,
I can't find such a place <grin>. Perhaps no such place exists, in which
case I will just have to sit back down and refine how I want to attack this.

So, do any of you know of a university (in America preferably) which offers
distance learning (or online) courses in greek?

I live in an area with a fair few universities around me, but the travel I
do for work I suspect would get in the way of any ease of physically
attending lectures. I live in Austin, Texas, but commute to work in San
Antonio, Texas - a trip of 75 miles each way.

So - any suggestions?

Regards

Mike McAllister
