As I am preparing a diagramming example for a December module in Trinidad
concerning participles, I ran across the above Scripture. It seems that
the subject is hO IHSOUS in v 1 and the main verb is a compound (3 verbs -
EGEIRETAI, TIQHSIN and DIEZWSEN) found in v 4. This would leave 3
participles acting adjectivally in vv. 1-3, EIDWS, AGAPHSAS and EIDWS. The
phrase in in question is verse 2, EIS TELOS HGAPHSEN AUTOUS, which seems
parenthetical, but I'm at a loss to be certain what it describes, "loving"
or "his own". And which ever it modifies, how does one graphically place
it in a syntactical outline? Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.
