Perhaps recourse to some solid scholarship on this matter might be more
rewarding than inviting "interpretations"?

As a start, may I suggest the _long_ entry in vol. 3 TDNT by Sasse, under
three main headings:
A. Non-biblical usage
B. KOSMOS in the LXX -- the concept of Cosmos in Judaism
C. KOSMOS in the N.T

[ Under B. incidentally, he makes the point that >> The Heb. OT has no word
for the universe. It normally speaks of heaven and earth, or occasionally
of the "all" << ]

This point is also cited by Stanley B. Morrow in his article " KOSMOS in
John " in CBQ 64/1 ( 2002) 90-102
