EGW DE LEGW hUMIN hOTI PAS hO BLEPWN GUNAIKA PROS TO EPIQUMHSAI AUTHN HDH
EMOICEUSEN AUTHN EN Thi KARDIAi AUTOU
On PROS TO EPIQUMHSAI AUTHN, a commentary I am reading notes that
the Accusative is found here (AUTHN). In essence, the author
suggests that the Genitive would be expected in the way we
traditionally understand this verse (to lust after her).
He take this as an Accusative of Reference, the
quasi subject of the infinitive, and renders it,
"so that she lusts." or "so as to get her to lust." To him, the
evidence for this translation is "strong." He adds that the man
is here looking at the woman with a view to enticing her to lust.
Any thoughts?
