Greetings William:

Unless there was some kind of misunderstanding between your son and his
instructor, this sounds like the kind of pseudo-scholarly, jargonistic
mumbo jumbo that is designed to razzle-dazzle the "uninitiated" and
silence dissenters when no truly compelling answer is forthcoming.
Index the above translation under "Wishful Thinking." In my opinion,
this is a good opportunity to instill in your son the importance of
persistent questioning and hard-headed--though respectful--dissent.
