The following is a work by a well known structuralist, pre-Chomsky.

Charles Carpenter Fries      The Structure Of English - An Introduction To
The Construction Of English Sentences      London: Longmans Green And Co
Ltd, 1967.  

I think the work acually dates from the early 50's or late 40's. I found it
usefull 20 years ago. Havn't read it recently.

BTW, You linguists out there, there is no need to point out that
"sturcturalism" is now a linguistic fossil.
