It depends on your purposes, if you want to learn the categories and the
basics of context without a lot of examples, you'll be fine with the
abridgement. If you want concrete examples and other sources to which you
can refer (from the footnotes), I would get the unabridged GGBB. At
Criswell, 1st semester exegetical syntax uses the abridgement as well as
Robert A. Young's book (which I would always recommend as a companion volume
because he goes into areas where Wallace--self acknowledging--is weary of
going to..i.e. discourse analysis, and a lot of linguistically oriented
exegesis) as well as exegetical guides and summaries to the pertinent NT
books. 2nd semester has all that and GGBB. If I were you, I'd go for the
unabridged, because you'll want it eventually if you continue in your
studies.
