Thought I'd give my two cents worth, this summer I had the opportunity to
teach the same hermeneutics course in India in 3 different locations, and I
wanted to give them some basic principles behind DA. After decoding
everything so it could be understandable to a limited English crowd, it
amounted to 4th-7th grade reading comprehension skills (of course with
exceptions). This is something we ought to remember when reading the Greek
text, it really is a lot of basic reading comprehension, and DA is just a
way of doing it scientifically, as I said, I don't believe this to be an
across the board rule (DA is especially valuable on the field in Bible
translation as well as in the expositor's study, I've become a strong
advocate of it). To quote my advanced Hebrew professor, when he related to
his studies of it in his Ph.D program, he said, "my son is learning this in
his fourth grade reading class."
