I will
>here give only some other examples of the aorist + NUN. These include
>Matthew 26:65, Luke 19:42, John 21:20, Acts 7:52, Romans 5:9, 5:11, 6:22,
>7:6, 11:30, 11:31, 16:26, 1Co 5:11, Gal 4:9, Eph 3:5, Col 1:26, 2 Tim 1:10,
>1 Peter 1:12, 2:10, 2:25.
Just to throw this out for what it's worth... as I was reading
these passages, the idea of an "irrevocable act/decision" stood out
in my mind. Not only is the idea of finality (completion) implied, but
more than that, there's no turning back.
This is very prominent in Romans. And in fact, note the verse used
in close proximity to NUN plus the Aorist.... AMETAMELHTA GAR
TA CARISMATA KAI hH KLHSIS TOU QEOU, hWSPER...
And in Gal. 4:9, the NUN plus Aorist ptc is followed by
hWS EPISTREFETE PALIN...;
Taking the Aorist as viewing the action/decision as complete, the
NUN draws the implication of how it now stands, and it stands as
complete and irrevocable. It's too late to turn back NUN. But there
are positive implications of this irrevocable aspect...
Hence, in Romans 6:22 "But now, since you have become freed from sin and
since you have become enslaved to God."
I will admit that the above suggestions are very tentative. And to
be honest, I'm not sure how 1 Peter 2:25 fits into my theory, if at
all. Oh well, back to the drawing board.
