Clay,

As you answered Francisco Orozco regarding TO ERGON TOU NOMOU, along the
same lines, what could you say of the phrase TO EQOS TOU NOMOU which is
found in Lk 2:27 according to D05, where NA27/USB4 reads: TO EIQISMENON TOU
NOMOU? What content does each of these expressions refer? Are they decrees
of law, of behavioral patterns associated with the Law or of the Law
itself? Thanks in advance,

TO EIQISMENON TOU NOMON PERI AUTOU

    Sylvie...you ask, "
What content does each of these expressions refer?

The first...TO EQOS TOU NOMOU, by being in the nominative case and limited
by the genitives TOU NOMOU, would move custom to center stage. Customs are
then highlighted as being characterized by the law, which I think would then
fit your description....decrees of behavioral patterns associated with the
law. Again, it seems to me this would grammatically direct the focus onto
the "custom or customs."

The second....TO EIQISMENON TOU NOMOU, being the perfect participle passive
speaks of that which has been being done and that it has become established
that it is customary of...(TOU NOMOU) that which is characterized by the
law. In other words when you do this or you see it done...that which is the
reality or content of the law is being expressed. What the law is and what
it expresses is at center stage, not that thing that is being done. This may
fit your description.....it is the Law itself.......I would
add..........expressed.

The first is the thing being done....the second is something being done to
express and represent something in reality.

ISTM that what was being done and experienced there was...TO EIQISMENON TOU
NOMOU.... for it was....PERI AUTOU....on account of or on behalf of that
which is characterized by Him. Custom was not the focus....
