Dr Wheeler is absolutely right in that the Greek of the NT, like any
other natural language, has enough ambiguities and inconsistencies that
any morphological parsing software, not matter how correct its
morphological and phonological rules, requires considerable
augmentation from data that must ultimately have been manually
compiled.
I also (sadly) have to agree that we far too often disregard the
intellectual property rights of organizations and individuals, the
latter who in many cases having spent a life time on their work.
While it is true that much of what is being talked about is, as Dr
Wheeler points out, reinventing the wheel, I think it's worth noting
that *sometimes* reinventing the wheel is a great way for an individual
to learn about wheels.
I appreciate Dr Wheeler's kind words regarding the nature of my own
work. If I have in the past shown a lack of interest in working with
the GRAMCORD Institute, it has only been due to my circumstances at the
time. I would be delighted to discuss offline how I might contribute in
some small way to their work.
In His Majesty's Service,
James
