[B-Greek] Consonantal iota

Is what Mounce calls a consonantal iota the same thing as what Smyth calls a
semivowel? Are these equivalent terms?

For reference, see Mounce, Basics of Biblical Greek, 2d ed., 179; 1st ed.,
165; or Smyth's Grammar, sect. 109.

I also note that a different glyph is used in Mounce and Smyth. Mounce uses
a pointed caret under the iota (much like the Unicode character 032D),
whereas Smyth uses a rounded mark (like Unicode 032F, or the
"humpback"/rounded version of a circumflex). Are these considered acceptable
alternate forms? Or is one or the other preferred?
