There may be some difference of opinion on this, but in my opinion
EMPROSQEN here is simply contrasting in a chronological sense with OPISW:
he comes LATER than I, but he has existence PRIOR to me. If "rank" is
expressed by any of these words, I would see it rather in PRWTOS than in
EMPROSQEN.
