>6. by those regarded to be something -- whoever they were -- encumbered me with nothing, but contrarily, seeing that I was entrusted with the gospel for the uncircumcised as Peter the circumcised . . .

[Luke] What is the precise relationship between the translation of APO and the words of the text? For example, what is the function of APO in the sentence? In fact, how do you translate the whole clause?

>6. APO DE TWN DOKOUNTWN EINAI TI, -- hOPOIOI POTE HSAN OUDEN MOI DIAFEREI; PROSWPON [hO] QEOS ANQRWPOU OU LAMBANEI -- EMOI GAR hOI DOKOUNTES OUDEN PROSANEQENTO,

[Luke]: In your reading it seems that Paul is appealing to the good opinion, or rather depth of information, to establish that these were the ones who's opinion mattered. It seems that the text has Paul discounting their status (their esteem for having once been disciples of the historical man Jesus) as being immaterial.

But assuming that he is saying that the esteemed ones "encumbered me with nothing" (which does not appear accurate) - doesn't that make Paul "independent of" them?

Thank you,

Luke
