While there is a certain truth to that, consider where it is that you learn 
what certain words mean.  I continually go to lexica because they not only 
give the glosses but give references as well.  It would be a good idea to 
check those references.  Sometimes they don't seem to indicate quite exactly 
what the lexicon implies.
