I agree with Carl Conrad on the value of just knowing your
alphabet backwards and forwards. I would suggest, not in
line with him perhaps, that a VERY good smaller lexicon to
have that is also useful for making significant
distinctions between definitions of words in context of
sentences you're observing, is G. Abbott-Smith's A MANUAL
GREEK LEXICON OF THE NEW TESTAMENT, Thrid edition, 1937 (My
printing was 1977, and I cannot imagine an intermediate
lexicon as good as this one going out of print ever,
although maybe one day someone might put it online).
