To my mind "the old is better"; but it depends on what you are looking for
in a commentary. Do you want exegesis, or linguistics; or both? Do you want
 Introduction, or Contents; or both?

Cranfield is excellent and modern. Buy that, and enquire within for
everything, as they say. But I often dip into Charles Hodge DD, /A Commentary
on the Epistle to the Romans/, new edition, revised, Edinburgh, 1864. This you
may only buy second hand, unless Eerdman's of Grand Rapids MI have reprinted
 it?

JA Bengel /Gnomon Novi Testamenti/, Eng Trans by James Bryce, Edinburgh, 1859
is excellent, but patchy. Again hard to find second hand, but well worth the
 effort.
