Hi Debbie,

Just in case your brother in law happens to be geographically close to
someone on this list who would be able to visit him and help him learn
Greek, could I ask where your brother-in-law is jailed?

Does he know any Greek at all? If so, he might be better off with the
combination of a Greek New Testament and a "cheater's guide". Here are two
good ones.

The New Linguistic and Exegetical Key to the Greek New Testament,
Fritz Rienecker and Cleon L. Rogers III, 1998. ISBN 03-1020-175-6.

A Grammatical Analysis of the Greek New Testament, Max Zerwick and
Mary Grosvenor. Rome: Biblical Institute Press, 1981. ISBN
88-7653-588-8.

I like Zerwick and Grosvenor better, but either will do. He'll also need a
grammar, perhaps Basics of Biblical Greek Grammar by
<http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=books&field-author=Mounce%2C%20William%20D./002-2047102-9788049>William
D. Mounce.

Many of us don't like interlinear Bibles because they tempt people to think
in English instead of thinking in Greek, and because they sort of imply
that a given Greek word is exactly equivalent to a corresponding English
word, which is often not the case.

Hope this helps!
