[B-Greek] ORQOTOMEW

Lest anyone think less of BDAG, let me observe, please that
"independently of the NT" is not at all synonymous with "outside the
NT." I do not know the TLG abbreviations nor patristic literature well
enough to know whether any of the citations Jeffrey supplied is
"independent of the NT." But any explicitly Christian work would be
dependent on the NT, and clearly most, if not all, of the items in
Jeffrey's TLG listing are such.

Larry's initial question contained the following:

> >I read the following statement in
> >BAGD: "found elsewh. independently of the NT only Pr 3:6; 11:5..."
Am I
> >reading that correctly? Aside from the three references above, are
there
> >no other examples of the verb ORQOTOMEW in KOINH Greek literature?
> >Nothing in the papyri? Nothing in early Patristic writings? Would
> >someone please confirm or correct my understanding here?

I would say, then, Larry, that some correction is in order, relative to
the "Patristic writings" category. BDAG's use of "independently of"
rather than "outside" contains a fairly clear implication that there do
exist other occurrences that are dependent upon the NT.

FWIW: Searching BAGD (not BDAG) in Logos Bible Software for the phrase
"independently of the NT" locates only this entry for ORQOTOMEW.
"Outside the NT" yields 4 hits: hIKANOW, MUSTHRION, PETROS (proper
name), and hUPER. My electronic BDAG is not at hand to see whether
anything has changed in the usage of such phraseology.

Blessings! (Acts 3:26),
