Hebrews 9:27 & 28
27: KAI KAQ hOSON APOKEITAI TOIS ANQROPOIS hAPAX APOQANEIN,META DE TOUTO CRISIS
28: hOUTWS KAI hO XRISTOS hAPAX PROSEVEXQEIS EIS TO POLWN ANENGKEIN AMARTIAS..
Hebrews 9:27 is traditionally been quoted as statement on the final destination of man and the finality of making a decision in this life, but I recently read a commentary which pointed out this may not be the case.
Is the following translation acceptable based on the greek:
27: And it is appointed for these men (the high priests discussed in verses 25 and 26) to die once, and then judgement
28: Outws.. (thus the comparison to Christ and the high priest continue)
Does the article in front of AVQROPOIS in verse 27 make it refer to the high priests mentioned in verses 25,26 and thus narrow wich men are being reffered to; or does the presence of the article generalize AVQROPOIS making it refer to all men in general?
(the following may not be directly relevant to the greek text but if somebody more familiar with old testament could send me an answer off list I would appreciate it.)
If verse 27 is narrowed to the high priests, exactly what does the judgement refer to ?
Judging the people free of their sins after the sacrifice?
Judging the sacrifice acceptable to god ?
Does it simply refer to the breastplate of judgement worn by the high priest: Exodus 28:30 ?
Thanks,
