The discussion of binding, combined with a visit yesterday to a
seminary rare book room, where I incidentally saw an early received
text, made me curious enough to look into book binding. I came across
the following page that demonstrates a fairly simple technique for
reinforcing or rebinding one's books, especially paperbacks:

Apparently, it's called Japanese bookbinding, and I've seen it used at
Union Theological Seminary (in Richmond) very successfully. They do
this to most of their paperbacks as well as laminating the covers, with
the result that even the 1970's editions of popular books are in good
condition.

It appears that this might be a helpful technique for all of us who use
too-many-too-expensive books to master. :)
