Hi B-Greek,
Im just wondering whether Wallaces Complementary type participle
(p646) is the same as Youngs Grounds (p155)? It was the only type that I
was unable to tally on the list below.
The other types of participles correspond with one another in the following
ways (& I hope some of you find this helpful):
Attendant Circumstances/ Adverbial/ Circumstantial (GGBB p622f; Young
p158f)
Causal/ Reason (GGBB p631; Young p154f)
Concessive/ Concession (GGBB p634; Young p156)
Conditional/ Condition (GGBB p632; Young p155f)
Telic/ Purpose/ Final (GGBB p635f; Young p156f)
Result (GGBB p637f; Young p157)
Imperatival (GGBB p650f; Young p160)
Modal/ Manner (GGBB p627; Young p153)
Instrumental/ Means (GGBB p628; Young p154)
Temporal/ Time (GGBB p623f; Young p153)
A footnote to a previous discussion on copyright and my supplying people on
this list with a listing of words of Vis-Ed cards (with particular reference
to J. Robies question): I was interested to note that, notwithstanding the
fact that I could have been seen as doing the wrong thing myself, nobody who
accepted my offer of the listing wrote back to say thanks. To the newbies
on this list (including myself): though your questions can be overly
remedial at times, you are forgiven a thousand times over when you show a
little appreciation. Or am I just overly sensitive about social graces?
