I note that many English translations (e.g., KJV, RSV, NASB, ESV, NEB, NIV
etc.) take EK XEIROS AUTHS as "on her" (he [God] has avenged the blood of
his servants on her [the great harlot]). But this seems odd to me. All the
other instances of this construction that I've found appear to refer to the
*subject* of the action; i.e., it tells who performed an action. But the
common Eng. transl. "on her" would make the EK XEIROS AUTHS the *object* of
another's action. As subject, it would refer to God avenging the blood of
his servants *which was shed by the action of the harlot.* Am I missing
something here? Are there parallels to this phrase used as most English
translations take it? I hesitate to disagree with such a wide range of
traditional translation...
