<doug>
i know carl already answered this but i wanted to add
something.
in greek there are two verb conjugation types:
1) Thematic (-W) verbs
2) Athematic (-MI) verbs
they are just two different conjugations one which used a
connecting (thematic) vowel(1) and one which didn't(2).

>And, why did some -MI verbs stay as -MI verbs in the
NT? (TIQHMI for example)
<doug>
from what i understand, -MI verbs were phasing out in the
koine period and in the process of being replaced by
thematic (-W) forms (carl pointed out the fact that both
conjugations of the same word appear in the NT for
AFIHMI/AFIW; this is evidence of this change/process).
languages are always in flux as carl said and it just so
happened that some were still being used at this time.
