Subject: [B-Greek] Studying the Word of God MUST READ!!!
> Yes, that's it!!! I hope I accurately conveyed Silva's thoughts/comments. Now
everyone can see if I did a fair job in my brief synopsis. I don't own the book,
but that first chapter is arresting reading, imo, for any one of us who
struggles to translate and/or understand Biblical Greek. I may print it out for
my Greek class to read (except -- it might discourage them!!).<<
Not to do any name dropping, but Silva was one of my professors for my M.Div.
and Th.M. work at WTS (including his course on the LXX). I have rarely met
anyone with deeper and more encyclopedic knowledge of his subjects. His
knowledge of extra-biblical Greek is easily on par with anyone who has at least
an M.A. in Classical Greek, and probably somewhat better than that level.
Combine this with a good knowledge of general linguistics, and he becomes one
impressive scholar dude (and did I mention that he studied under F.F. Bruce and
other worthies at Manchester?)...
