[B-Greek] names X promises

Protestantism has taught that Petros is a small stone -- “ meaning a
stone of such a size that can be picked up and thrown”.
Petra is a large rock formation – so Petros and petra are distinct words
related to a common root but with distinct senses. Now, plz, i would like
to know why did Jesus change Simon´s name? What did Jesus have in mind
by changing his name (any kind of implicit promise by changing his
name)???? What was the real God´s aim by changing names. e.g . from
Sarai to Sarah - from Abram to Abraham ( any kind of promise by changing
their names )??

Best regards,

Ajal
