I think the latter, speaking more languages, would be
the normal way to take this. Paul does not seem to put
any value on how frequently one exercises this gift.
Not to be disrepectful, but I take the opposite
position here from Carl (ecstatic speech). In just
four more verses Paul relates THIS tongues speaking
gift to that which Isaias prophesied about. The
languages Isaias references would include the Assyrian
language (for the northern tribes) and Babylonian for
the southern tribes. How Paul relates the Assyrian or
Babylonian languages to what was happening in Corinth
is not a grammatical question, however.
