Hi Bert. I have the same goal. I have been using Mounce's text and I
had the same problem (i.e. being able to guess the answers to
translation exercises because of my knowledge of the English NT). So,
I decided to supplement Mounce's exercises with the "made-up" Greek to
English exercises in Machen. Eventually I switched to Machen as my
main text. I find I prefer his style to Machen's "Greek for Dummies"
approach. I've also been studying Attic with the study group in the
greekstudy list using J. White's "First Greek Book" which aims to give
the student enough knowledge of Attic to read the Anabasis. You might
be interested in joining the group.

Kind Regards,
