Hello,

In Malachi 3:8 in the LXX, it reads:

MHTI PTERNIEI ANQRWPOS QEON;

I can not, for the life of me, find PTERNIEI in any Lexicon that I have (BDAG, LSJ). Other forms of this word in Malachi 3:8 are PTERNIZETE and EPTERNISAMEN.

I assume the dictionary form of the word is PTERNIZW, but I have been unable to find it. PTERNA, the only word I can find similar to it, means "the heel of a foot" and does not make sense in the context.

A LXX translation that I have renders this word as "insult," but I want to find the basis for that. The original Hebrew word was the word for "rob, defraud"

"Will a man rob God?" - Malachi 3:8, NASB
"Will a man insult God" - Malachi 3:8, LXX (translated by Sir Lancelot Charles Lee Brenton)

Any help in understanding/finding this word (PTERNI*) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
