To enhance our understanding of Koine, a group of friends and I are
reading selections from "The Hellenistic Greek Reader" by Colwell and
Mantey. We came across this passage while reading the selection from
Strabo.
EFH GAR EKEINOS KAI EDIDASKEN hWS OUK ORQWS FRONEIN Hoi
AIGUPTOI QHRIOIS EIKAZONTES KAI BOSKHMSAI TO QEION,
Our questions is, why is Hoi AIGUPTOI in the nominative? Is this
some sort of indirect discourse?
In the passage quoted above Strabo is discussing what Moses taught
though about the Egyptian religion--according to his understanding of
Moses.
According to the Reader this section is taken from The Loeb Library,
Vol. VII 2. 34-37, 1930.
Thank you,
