[B-Greek] Olympics -- Off topic

I was intrigued to see that during the entrance of the athletes at the
opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Athens, the large electronic
billboard proclaimed the legend AQHNA 2004. I presume this was intended to
convey "ATHENS 2004" (as emblazoned on all the Olympic sporting venues). But
why AQHNA? Isn't this but one way of spelling the goddess's name (the
others, according to the Oxford Classical Dictionary, being AQANA,
AQHNAIH(-A), and AQHNH)?
I'd always thought that the modern Greeks consistently spelled the city's
name as AQHNAI.
Why am I confused?
