Don't be shocked. You have to pay extra for those because the software
vendor has to pay bigger licensing fees for them.
As with many things, the answer to what is sufficient is "it depends." What
do you want to do with it?
BDAG is the current standard scholarly lexicon for Hellenistic Greek. But
if you're just reading and not doing serious exegesis, you might make do
with what came with your software. I'm sure others will chime in with more
detailed advice.
TDNT is not a lexicon. It is more along the lines of lengthy word studies.
It also has been severely criticized as to its methodology by James Barr and
others. Nevertheless, it has a lot of valuable information. But it doesn't
take the place of a good lexicon.

Subject: [B-Greek] BDAG, Louw and Nida, or TDNT?
I just purchased the "Logos Bible Software Series X:
Scholar's Library" and to my shock, this program did not come with the 3rd
edition of "A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early
Christian Literature" (or any other edition for that matter).
Instead, it came with Louw and Nida's 2nd edition of "Greek-English Lexicon
of the New Testament Based on Semantic Domains" and it also has the
"Theological Dictionary Of the New Testament" (the 1985 abridged in one
volume AND the 1964 unabridged - I think).
What I am looking for is a lexicon/dictionary that would contain nearly all
the Greek words found in the Septuagint, NT, and early Patristic writings.
Is the Louw/Nida and the TDNT sufficient? Or should I go and purchase the
BDAG?
Thanks.
