Hi Troy,

You may want to examine the following passages where the term is used in the
LXX.

Deuteronomy 26:17-18; Joshua 24:15; I Samuel 19:1; II Samuel 15:15,
19:10;Job 34:4 Isaiah 38:17 & Jeremiah 8:3

Subject: [B-Greek] hEILATO

Hello all,
I'm doing a Greek exegesis paper on 2 Thessalonians 2:1-15, and in v.
13 I've come across a word that seems to only appear 2 other times in
the NT: hEILATO.

These are the occurances found by a strongs # search, which may or may
not be useful.

Philippians 1:22 “But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean
fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to (hAIRHSOMAI)
(V-FMI-1S) choose.” (NASB)

Hebrews 11:25 “(hELOMENOS) (V-2AMP-NSM) choosing rather to endure
ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures
of sin,” (NASB)

II Thessalonians 2:13 “But we are under obligation to express gratitude
to God always regarding you all, brothers, beloved ones of the Lord,
because God has (hEILATO) taken for Himself (V-AMI-3S) you all,
firstfruits into salvation in purity of the spirit and belief of the
truth.” (mine, before this word study)

The lexicon says that it is probably akin to AIRW, so I decided to use
some of its implications in my translation (before beginning this word
study).

It seems to be in the middle voice in all three occurances, and seems to
have the idea of:

making up my mind for myself

Does anyone have any insights for me, or other non-Biblical references
they might point me to which can show the natural usage of this word.

Thank you, in advance.
