To my knowledge we have discussed BeDuhn's work on this list only once.
I don't know anything about his education in Greek or acceptance in the
"scholarly community" (which one?). But I DO know that his treatment of
Heb 1.8 was exposed as flawed, to say the least. In fact, it was
methodologically misleading, though I would not go so far as to say
intentionally so. Though I am not a professional scholar, one of the
first aspects of his treatment that jumped out at me was his failure to
take into account parallels from the LXX and other sources, such as Lam
5.19 and 1 Enoch 9.4. How could a Greek scholar ignore the LXX in
treating the grammar and syntax of a quotation FROM the LXX? And why
would he purposely and artificially limit his sources to just the GNT?
VERY suspect, in my opinion.
