I think it is a grammatical one that has theological implications. We are,
of course, free to discuss the grammatical aspect here but the theological
is verboten! ;-)
I think that grammatically, verbs that are deponent should generally be
translated active unless there is a pressing contextual reason to translate
them in either middle or passive.
