Well, Westcott was no slouch in Greek nor was Plummer, but both thought
AGAPAW referred to a higher form of love than did PHILEW.  I think Trench
also makes this judgment.  It is not in favour now, but I think there was a
time when this was a standard interpretation of the Greek text.  I'm pretty
sure they all would have studied the usage of the verb.  I guess, wrong
conclusions are possible even after much study :-)
