Mr. Conrad,

What would you suggest, though, for those who have to teach themselves
and do not have the benefit of a classroom setting? Is Funk's good for
self-study? Anyway, I once used Machen because it was small enough to
carry with me and read in the crowded Tokyo subway as I commute to
work. I use Mounce too, and I think its size is the practical limit
for reading in the train. Alas, Wallace is too big, so I might have to
use Dana/Mantey in my "commuter second-year Greek studies". (The trend
these days in textbooks seems to be that they're growing bigger, and I
think the paper is thicker, the bindings are as a rule glued instead of
sewn so that they won't open flat as good bindings should. I wish
they'd follow the example of the UBS books made in Germany -- they're
so handy, and the paper and bindings are of such good quality).
Anyway, of course I realize textbooks are not designed for use in Tokyo
subways...;-)

Best Regards,
