I heartily agree with everything Steve Westfall says, but I would 
add:  If you can manage it, good Bible software is a real help.  Mine 
is Logos, but I've heard good things about Bibleworks, and for Mac 
users, I understand that Accordance can't be beaten.  But it's a 
thousand times easier (and therefore conducive to perseverance)  to 
click on a word in the text and have the definition pop up on your 
screen that to struggle with three-inch thick, three-pound lexicons 
filled with tiny print.
