moderation, I'm forwarding this version for him with what I hope is an
appropriate subject-header. cwc

Hi, I finally found some time and energy to think about this problem.
1 Thess 4:15 For we tell you this by the word of the Lord,19 that we who
are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not go
ahead of those who have fallen asleep.
hOTI hHMEIS hOI ZWNTES hOI PERILEIPOMENOI EIS THN PAROUSIAN TOU KYRIOU
OU MH FQASWMEN TOUS KOIMHQENTAS.
Some commentaries take "we who are alive, who are left until the coming
of the Lord", to mean the same as "those who are alive, who are left
until the coming of the Lord".
Is it allowed from the linguistic point of view? When Paul said hHMEIS,
he must have had in mind his audience and himself. When he added hOI ZWNTES
hOI PERILEIPONEMOI EIS
THN PAROUSIAN TOU KYRIOU, he reduced the scope of "we" further. But I am
puzzled how Paul's langauge can be further relaxed to mean "any of us
Christians who
are alive until the coming of the Lord"?
Sincerely
Moon
