Dear fellow B-Greek'ers!
Rising to a challenge put forward by Carl V. Conrad that I better come up with a new translation of Rom 12:1 and 1Pet 2:2 if I want to continue the thread on LOGIKOS, I tremblingly do so. The final words of Rom 12:1 should be translated thus: "This is your figurative temple service" - meaning that whatever the Israelites did to their sacrificial animals was what the Romans should do figuratively speaking with their bodies. The decisive words of !Pet 2:2 should be translated thus: "This is your figurative pure milk" - meaning that as newborn babies thrive on pure milk, so the elected ones should thrive on the living stone i.e.. Christ.
As 'figurative' is not part of my active, English vocabulary, my suggestions for translations might be improvable...
Yours
